Ashikin Hashim

I’m a media student completing my final semester in Monash University and freelancing as a sports journalist in Singapore. I’m known as the ‘Female voice of Football’ in Asia and have worked in both print and web media, with extensive contacts from all over the world.

 

I’m majoring in Communications with a minor journalism, and was part of Monash University’s student council (MUSA) in 2010. I held office as the Editor of the university’s magazine, The Monash Gazette which received acclaimed from campuses in South Africa, Malaysia and Australia. While holding my post as an Editor, I was also writing for Yahoo! Southeast Asia and contributing my sports features (and interviews, of course!) to them. I was also freelancing for a local sports newspaper. At the same time, I was running my international blog, Futbolita, which made it to The Guardian’s list of Top sports Blogs for 2010. I faced many challenges trying to juggle all of these on my plate, but it helped that I planned everything down so it did not deter me from getting it all done. I can also speak Spanish and Portuguese and was trained in Castilian Spanish during my work-sponsored trip to Spain earlier this year.

 

My ultimate goal is to use my skills and passion in media and communications to excel internationally. With my extensive experience in print and the web media, my next step would be to do well in Broadcast media. As an avid traveler, I believe that meeting new people and gaining experiences has given me a newfound inspiration needed to excel in this industry. Thus, the perfect job for me would involve travelling, communicating my experiences and meeting new people. I would like for the opportunity to expand my brand – Futbolita -  and empower more women from all over the world with it. My passion has taken me far in the past, and I have been fortunate to receive opportunities to explore them. As a highly-independent thinker and motivated individual, I believe I’ll be an asset to any company.
